Can you invest a couple hours in the youth just twice a month? We need 20+ new volunteers to come on Saturdays or Sundays at a time that works best for you. The residents thrive on being listened to and interpret your time as demonstrating that you care about them and expect that they have a positive future ahead of them. This is a much needed boost to their low self-esteem.
In addition to boosting their self-esteem, playing board games:
- Teach Social Skills - teens learn skills like cooperation, taking turns, and being a good sport. They can also help teens learn to follow instructions and agree to play by the rules.
- Cognitive development Board games can help teens develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and logical reasoning skills. They can also improve memory retention, concentration, and creativity.
- Increase Confidence - Winning gives a sense of accomplishment and boosts their self-esteem.
- Stress Reduction - can help teens reduce stress by releasing feel-good endorphins, lowering blood pressure, and promoting empathy, compassion, and trust.
- Language skills - games with reading components or word-based challenges can help teens expand their vocabulary, reading comprehension, and language skills.
